Counselling Sessions

Your individual sessions are a special encounter, in which true emotional safety is found for a moment.
Safe from judgements, from society’s pressures, from having to hide away your authentic self.

From there, we focus on finding honesty with ourselves, getting clear on our deepest needs, and building the way to an easier life.

Sustainable counselling means improvements keep going in your daily life and in different context, after we close the session.
Later sessions may include simple ‘homework’ exercises, designed to continue the counselling process even after the session has ended, embedding the benefits into your everyday lifestyle.

Approach

My foundation is client-centered and humanistic. This approach focuses on empathy, is holistic in scope, and gives greater permission to you—the client—to determine what it is you truly need. With counsellor and client as equals, the client’s individuality can be dignified and their freedom to self-determination is protected.

I use the structure of DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) to orient pragmatic counselling goals.
DBT is a well-studied modality that’s proven effective at improving emotional regulation. It is hands-on in developing skills that are applicable to daily life.

I also integrate nature into counselling in various ways. This is especially useful for anyone…
– feeling exhausted by the city (e.g. HSP – highly sensitive persons),
– miserable amidst consumerism (existentially vacuous),
– better able to think when moving (e.g. AHDH).

I’ve trained and worked in a number of modalities
  • client-centred therapy (Carl Rogers)
  • group therapy (Irvin Yalom; Marsha Linehan)
  • DBT
  • mindfulness and meditation (MBSR; Buddhist Kagyü; autogenic training; etc)
  • existential therapy
  • Non-Violent Communication (Marshall Rosenberg)
  • hypnotherapy
  • art therapy
  • Schema therapy
  • CBT

In practice I only use what’s useful. And sometimes what a client really needs isn’t on this list.

  1. a strong & reliable internet connection,
  2. a device with camera and microphone (most smart phones work fine, or a computer), and
  3. a private place where you can talk alone and uninterrupted for the schedule time. This is crucial for creating the safe space.

Sessions follow a 50 minute standard, unless otherwise arranged.

A heavily reduced rate can be made available for war-affected and low-income earners.
